Last weekend, De Tijd turned the spotlight on Belgium’s 50 most daring figures. There’s no doubt that entrepreneurs need to be daring, and even somewhat fanatical from time to time. This article is all about the most exciting Flemish initiative-takers, who both dare to dream and take calculated risks.
However, it takes a great deal for an entrepreneur to be included in De Tijd’s ‘The 50’. The editorial team set out a number of criteria with which each candidate needed to comply. Among those things taken into consideration were the financial risks, the willingness to step out of one’s comfort zone, innovation, and operating in difficult circumstances or in an ailing sector.
The daring Flemish entrepreneurs are obliged to confront the hard figures setting out their profit and turnover, and are thus faced with a serious reality check.
And there’s no doubt that our country sorely needs these daring figures. “It is this daring that creates jobs, generates wealth and brings in taxes, with which, in turn, we can keep public services and social care afloat. Reading De Tijd’s Top 50 daring figures fills you with optimism. And yet, entrepreneurial daring often develops ‘in spite of’ rather than ‘thanks to’ the government.”, according to Isabel Albers, De Tijd’s Editor-in-Chief.
Grace Keli de Aguilar Gomes, Managing Director of Belofloripa, is exactly this kind of daring figure, and was therefore awarded 17th place in De Tijd’s list of the 50 most daring figures of 2014. Click here to find out more about Grace Keli and the other forty-nine candidates.
